CALUMNY  (n): a false statement maliciously made to injure someone's reputation.

CAPIAS   (n): a writ authorizing an officer to arrest the person
specified therein.

CAVEAT   (n): a legal notice to a court or public officer to suspend a
certain proceeding until the
               notifier is given a hearing.

CHAMPART (n): a share of landlord in the produce of land.

CHAMPERTY(n): an illegal agreement in which a person not naturally
interested in a lawsuit finances
               it with a view to sharing the disputed property.

CHATTEL  (n):  a movable article of property, such as chair, horse,
motor car etc.

COGNOVIT (n): written admission by a defendant of leability, made to
avoid the expense of a trial.

COUNTERPLEA(n): a plaintiff's answer to a defendant's plea or couterclaim.

DELICT    (n): misdemeanour, offence, (roman law) a civil wrong
permitting compensation or punitive
                damages.

MALVERSATION(n): misconduct in public office.

MANDAMUS  : a judicial writ issued as a command to an inferior, or to
an office, a cooperation etc. commanding
             to an interior court, or to an officer, a corporation etc
commanding that a specified thing be done.

MISFEASANCE: the wrongful performance of a normally lawful act.

MITTIMUS  : a writ instructing a jailor to hold a prisoner.

MORTMAIN  : property which can neither be seized, sold or transferred.

NON-FEASANCE: the ommission of some actwhich ought to have been performed.

OBROGATION: the annulment or atleration of law by an enactment of a new one.

PALIMONY  : an allowance for support made under court ordder and given
usu by a man to his former
             mistress or live-in companion after they have separated.

PECCADILLO: petty sin or offence, a triffling fault.

PLEADINGS : the formal written statements presented alternately by the
plaintiff and defendant in a lawsuit.

PREMISE   : details of property, names of people etc specified in a
the first part of a legal agreement.

PROTECTORY: an institution for the welfare of destitute or delingquent children.

PURVIEW   : that which is provided or enacted in a statue, the purpose
of the statue.

RECOGNIZANCE: bond or obligation entered into before a court of law,
binding a person to do a particular act.

SEISIN    :legal possession of either land or chattel.

SPADO     : an impotent person, one unable to procreate.

SPECIALITY:a special agreement, contract etc expressed in an
instrument under seal.

TORT      :private or civil wrong for which the suffer can seek
redress through court.

TRANSPIRE :

WRIT      :a formal legal written order to do or not to do something,
issued by a court of law or a person in authority.
